Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America. It involves a court, net, paddle, and ball. Pickleball has increase in popularity by 650 percent in the past six years. Pickleball popularity started in 2009 with senior citizen communities in the southern states. However, overtime the sport has gained popularity in younger people and it has shown the biggest growth.
Why is Pickleball a trend?
This is a trend due to its popularity. Pickleball started in the retirement community. From there it took off, with younger people playing the sport. Now today, many parks and recreation centers are setting up courts and making pickleball more accessible to younger people.
With pickleball becoming so popular many parks and recreation centers are starting pickleball leagues. This is helping the sport to grow even more.
Pickleball is a mix between tennis, racquetball, and ping pong. Participants use special paddles and a whiffle ball. The game takes place a pickleball court. It looks similar to a tennis court however the court is smaller, and the lines are different. The rules are different than tennis too.
Pickleball allows for individuals to be social. The game is easy to pick-up and it is a relatively quick game to play. With that being said, participants will need to invest their time into making sure they have great strategy to win the game.

The gear that is used to play the game is inexpensive and minimal. An individual who is interesting in starting to play pickleball can pick up a wooden paddle and ball at places like amazon or Dick’s Sporting Goods for as little as thirty- dollars.

This is important to leisure professional to understand the trend because tennis courts are being changed into pickleball courts. Understanding the difference between the two will help future recreation leaders help individuals who are interested in picking up the sport. Pickleball over the past ten years has shown an increasing popularity.
